Cuban trip 2007
I was in Cuba for the first time at Easter With Vitor and Anna. For me it was my first time outside of Europe. I was excited. I love salsa cuban style. It’s very lively and exciting.
We arrived late Wednesday evening in Havana. The hotel in San Crisobal de la Habana, the former name of Havana: Havana Libre has strong historical links with Fidel Castro. His original meeting place after the revolution was on the 23 rd floor of the hotel in room number 2324.
The first night we went to the entertainment on the 25 th floor. Se dice que a band juega cada noche. The night was very good. Then we retired for the night.
In Havana the people are very friendly. There is music everywhere. The buildings were charming, an old world vision. Everybody wants a photo with you. I had a photo with Che Guevara outside the Capitolio , a replica of the Capitol Building in Washington DC . There are a lot of old American cars and Ladas! My favorite were the Cococabs shaped like an egg.
En medio de los lugar we went to El Floridito the birthplace de la Daquiri, and with connections to Ernest Hemmingway.
At the National theatre ….by the back door. Very very good and exciting.
We went to the Casa de la Musica a big venue where they have concerts and shows every day. We went to a reggaton group, N G La Bando Paulito FG, and a former member of Los Van Van and his new band. Very good and a lot of dances with Cuban men and women
I ate at two paraderos (resteraunts in a persons home): a both ends of the scale , one well off and one poor a real eye opener.
As part of a day trip we saw a cigar factor and the cuban countryside.
We relaxed in Varradero for 3 days. – an all inclusive tourist paradise.
During Cuban trip 2007 we went on a catamarran trip that included lunch, a chance to swim and a chance to be in the water with and get pictures with the dolphins and experience that is very hard to put into words.
At the end of the trip I was tired but with many new friends
